For Aruba Doet 2026, SC3 took on two projects in San Nicolas in one day, each addressing a different part of community wellbeing.

At SABA Retirement Center, SC3 partnered with SABA to create the SABA Sunrise Garden, an accessible green and sensory space designed with senior residents in mind.

Volunteers created raised planters and planted herbs that residents can touch, smell, tend to and eventually harvest. Fruit trees were also planted as part of the garden’s long term development, with the goal of eventually providing both fruit and natural shade. The garden creates opportunities for activity, connection and the sharing of traditional knowledge and memories associated with plants commonly used in Aruban and Caribbean households.

On the same day, another group of SC3 volunteers renovated and beautified the De Vuyst public bus stop, continuing the work started with the IMSan bus stop renovation in 2025. Together, the two projects demonstrate how community development can take different forms. One focused on accessibility, sustainability and quality of life for senior residents, while the other improved a public space used by the wider community every day.
